Health and technology are coming together Bandage Reveals Infection Or Healing

Smart Bandage
Health and technology are coming together like never before with the latest advances in the field. Sometimes the devices is very fancy and high tech and sometimes it is surprisingly simple.

Whether you are talking about the new apps that Ford is planing to put in their new cars that will monitor everything from your heartbeat to the pollen count in the air, or a more advanced approach to healthy living and integration with technology thanks to Nutrismart’s “eat smart” campaign; tech plays a big role. Of course for the most part both of those pieces of technology are more the preventative care type of health tech. A new bandage that has just been produced in Australia is preventative in another way, in that it will change colors when placed over a wound to show if the wound is healing or – god forbid – getting infected.
While the smart bandage, developed by researchers in Melbourne will certainly help patients find out quicker if their wounds are healing properly, this particular device will also save health systems a ton of money, lowering the cost of health care for everyone who uses the device on a widespread scale. According to the Australian government these new bandages will be able to save them up to $500 million in chronic wound care.
Louise van der Werff who is the lead researcher for the project says that they’ve “created a fabric that changes colour in response to temperature – showing changes of less than 0.5 of a degree. We expect that, when incorporated into a bandage it will allow nurses to quickly identify healing problems such as infection or interruptions to the blood supply, which are typically accompanied by a local increase or decrease in temperature.”
At the moment they have fabric and in the next few months that fabric will be turned into an actual bandage and in a few months after that the bandage will be distributed on a wide scale by the Australian government as long as the testing and development works out to plan. Robin Cranston, another researcher on the team describes the bandage technology as being important because, “having the ability to collect a broader range of data on a wound’s status will have a significant impact on the understanding of chronic wounds and how best to treat them.”

Tech Devices Activator Concept PC By Yuri Kim As technology and science

Activator, Future Computer, Yoori Koo
Innovative minds never stop thinking! This is precisely the reason why we see so many gadgets all across the globe. Laptops and smart phones have made the world shrink, where everything is just a touch away. If you are one amongst those who think that technology is at its peak and it is practically impossible to come with something better, then you ought to read ahead. Yoori Koo from South Korea has designed a PC, dubbed as Activator, for the year 2010.

Activator, Future PC, Yoori Koo
In ancient times, people used to calculate and keep a record by drawing on the ground and walls. Over the years, this took the shape of various tools like abacus, chalkboard, calendar, phone and computers. As technology and science progressed, analogous stuff got swapped into digital forms. These kept refining with each passing day and present products are a fine example of advanced technology. The world is at its digital best and designers are leaving no stone unturned to give it an overhaul. Now, the Activator seeks to fill the existing gap (if there is any) between the digital and physical world.
Activator, Future Computer, Yoori Koo
The designer anticipates that by 2020 every object around the globe will come wrapped with invisible smart particles over cloud computing. The pen-shaped device will be nothing less than a magic wand. Simply, draw the shape and the objects will be activated, and will be able to visualize “Digital Device Contents.” Each and every device of a graspable nature will be present as contents. The futuristic device will be easy to use and will make lives simpler. All a user has to do is select a desired application that they wish to exploit. Now, draw the range of an object as per the purpose and the chosen device will be activated within the desired range. Wow! Activator will change the digital scene and make users live an enthralling experience.

Up-In-The-Air, Floating Fridge, Zhang Wei
Imagine life without a fridge! Storing food, so that it remains consumable, will become such a problem. But with living spaces getting smaller, keeping a refrigerator will eat up the space even further. Chinese designer Zhang Wei has designed a floating fridge named Up-in-the-air which will make sure that food remains fresh while saving space.

If we observe, the only place we exploit aptly is the floor while the ceiling remains untouched. The designer has explored the possibility of using it in an ingenious manner with Up-in-the-air. In China, hanging food by attaching it to the ceiling is a traditional food storing method. Taking inspiration from this long-established system, now we will be able to store food attached to the ceiling.

The fridge has been fashioned in the form of a cute looking container that can be charged wirelessly. The container has been injected with gas and cooling sheets. After filling the container with food, place it anywhere you feel like on the ceiling. It works like a floating balloon and remains there. The container comes attached with a central controller, which can easily detect the change in gravity. After the gravity is sensed, the correct amount of gas is released by the controller which helps in a suitable uplift.
Different containers are available to store different types of food items. One can easily come to know from how long the food has been stored with an indication wedged on it. Up-in-the-air will prove to be a boon in this intertwined world. It will save space and make sure whatever you store remains fresh.

Functionality, practicality and sustainability go hand in hand with the above pictured conception. Conceived by Taiwanese industrial designer Wei-Chih Hsu, and aptly dubbed as the Solar Stand, the contraption is basically a stylishly portable stand (for Smartphones and Tablets) that incorporates two solar panels along with a lithium-ion battery pack. So from the perspective of serviceability the showpiece stand/rack doubly acts up as a fully operational solar powered charger for a plethora of electronic gadgets.

Solar Stand, Eco Gadget, Wei-Chih Hsu
The designer has envisaged of a simple and user friendly system in which devices such as mobile phones, smartphones and tablets can be rested along the supports of the foldable solar paneled ‘flaps’ (as shown in the above picture). Once their positions are fixed, the Solar stand can juice up the device by clean and green solar power. The power (electricity) generated will actually be stored in the lithium-ion battery, and the phone can be charged directly from it via a micro-USB cable. The contraption will in actuality comprise of two solar panels (which can be adjusted to different angles) with different capabilities of power generation. The shorter panel could be used to charge smaller devices such as smartphones, while the longer one could be used for comparatively larger devices such as tablets.
